I/O (album)

I/O was the working title of a planned studio album by British progressive rock musician Peter Gabriel. It was initially intended to be the follow-up to his 2002 album, Up, though, in October 2011, Gabriel stated that he had not actually completed the recording of any songs for I/O and that the project was merely a set of "song ideas" which remain unfinished.

Work history

The history of I/O is closely connected to that of making the album Up, which notoriously took Gabriel almost 10 years to complete, with some of the songs being first recorded during the Us recording sessions. After the Secret World Live World Tour, Gabriel spent much of the 1990s writing new material, and in interviews circa 2002 he said that four albums would come out of this period of writing (he reportedly wrote and prepared over 130 songs during this time, of which ten were selected for Up).

Originally the album was set to be released in 2004, or 18 months apart from Up, yet extensive touring (the Growing Up Live and Still Growing Up Live tours in 2003 and 2004) pushed the release far ahead.

Iodine pentoxide

Iodine pentoxide is the chemical compound with the formula I₂O₅. This iodine oxide is the anhydride of iodic acid, and the only stable oxide of iodine. It is produced by dehydrating iodic acid at 200 °C in a stream of dry air:

I₂O₅ is bent with an I-O-I angle of 139.2°, but the molecule has no mirror plane so its symmetry is not C_2v. The terminal I-O distances are around 1.80 Å and the bridging I-O distances are around 1.95 Å.

Reactions

Iodine pentoxide easily oxidises carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide at room temperature:

This reaction can be used to analyse the concentration of CO in a gaseous sample.

I₂O₅ forms iodyl salts, [IO₂⁺], with SO₃ and S₂O₆F₂, but iodosyl salts, [IO⁺], with concentrated sulfuric acid.

Iodine pentoxide decomposes to iodine (vapor) and oxygen when heated to about 350 °C.

"You and I" is a song written by Frank J. Myers, and recorded by American country music artists Eddie Rabbitt and Crystal Gayle as a duet. It was released in October 1982 as the first single from the album Radio Romance. "You and I" became a major country pop crossover hit for both artists.

US television show Glee covered this song in a mash-up with the Lady Gaga's same titled song in episode "Mash Off."

"You and I" was the name of a hit song for R&B/Funk musician Rick James. It was released from his debut album, Come Get It!. It spent two weeks at number one on the Billboard R&B charts and reached number thirteen on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978. "You and I" also peaked at number three on the disco chart.
